![]() GPL doesn't protect RPGPM from losing this feature-fee in modification though. GPL is about preserving the RPG Paper Maker software ( not the game-exports) if you were to redistribute RPGPM yourself as a mirror or branch or dependency. Being FOSS gives you ownership of the project to make such changes. ![]() You would be a d*ck for doing this (knowing the context that it's a small development with limited experience in this industry), but you could build a private copy that modifies and circumvents any technical restrictions in place that enforces said fee. It's mostly a technical restriction and an arbitrary word requirement in the readme.md. The GPLv3 license offers no protections over game-exports/products and I do not see any other license included with the Github project to cast such limitations on game exports. I think urgency should be taken if this is truly their intention though. Proprietary licensing would definitely suit this software better. And actually he think change to a proprietary license. Yes but can you compile the source yourself, make a game with it and then sell it without giving them $70? Simply put, the price is FREE unless you plan on buying the commercial version then you have to pay a fee of $70 USD unless you get it on a steam sale or the price goes down. The maker is easy to use and if you feel the price is to much you can just use the free version until you decide to make your game commercial then you can decide on paying for the maker, who knows, the price just might go down or it might go on sale and you can get the license for cheaper. just like unity which has a steep price for making a simple game "one time fee of $1,500 or $75 per month." ![]() I do admit it dose seem pricey for a maker that dose not have much on it, but on the other hand you have the rights to license your game using it. I should know I payed that much and I still have my digital receipt. ![]() when the maker first came out it was about $70 USD. Originally posted by Scout:The RPG Maker MV comment is wrong.
